Chasing Paradise
Tourist Jim Cameran thought he was going to spend his Hawaiʻi vacation taking pictures but a nearby Pueo has another idea. When Jim's camera is unexpectedly taken by the Hawaiian owl, a wild chase ensues. But what begins as the pursuit of a simple camera soon becomes a journey greater than he ever imagined. This animated short, Chasing Paradise, was written and wholly created by the New Media Arts Animation student cohort of 2013 for the course ART 294: Practicum. It is a year-long collaboration of the entire cohort to write the story, design, model, and rig the characters and environment, paint the background art, and composite the shots to create this short.

Ray Stanchfield
Director
Raymond John Stanchfield showed remarkable artistic abilities as a youngster growing up in Western Canada. After his family moved back to the states, he continued his interest in art while attending high school in Colorado and was awarded a prestigious art scholarship to Savannah College of Art & Design, Savannah, Georgia. Ray worked in Colorado Springs where he began painting murals and doing airbrush art. His early travels led him to California where he continued studying art at the Associates of Art College in Van Nuys. Then at the urging of a high school friend, Ray moved to Hawaii where he worked for Richardson Construction. It was there that he had a chance to learn the art of construction as well as continue mural painting within that field. Ray has also been working with and on computers since the early 80's. He has always felt that digital goes hand in hand with traditional artwork. In 2010 he furthered his 3D skills by attending Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu. He was voted in as co-director for his cohort's animated short, "Chasing Paradise", which will be shown in film festivals in 2014. He graduated with honors and two scholarships.
